Breathing Exercises
These Breathing Exercises will increase the oxygen in your blood; will elevate your mood and energy levels.
Breathing exercises for Vital Energy
- Take 3 or 8 negative breaths.
- Immediately follow with 3 or 8 positive breaths respectively.
- Done!
Negative Breathing
For negative breathing, inhale from the nose, as deeply as you can without straining yourself. Immediately start exhaling from the mouth. Apply pressure with the tongue and mouth, so that you can hear and regulate the air coming out, between your teeth and pursed lips.
Exhalation can last 3-5 seconds. While you exhale, try to visualize all the negative energy coming out of your body with the air. You can imagine it like black gases or strings coming out of your mouth.
With your lungs completely empty, wait for as long as you feel comfortable (5-20 sec) and repeat.
Negative breathing causes sleepiness and can be used in cases of insomnia.
Positive Breathing
For positive breathing, inhale deeply, as if you are in a forest and want to fill your lungs with fresh air. Visualize positive energy flow into your body (maybe like white light). Hold the breath as long as you feel comfortable (15-30 sec). Exhale normally and immediately repeat.
Positive breathing increases oxygen and vital energy in the body.
What is Deep Breathing?
Also called abdominal breathing or belly breathing. Instead of flexing only the upper chest, we use the belly to deepen the breath. The belly expands and pulls down the diaphragm during inhalation. It contracts and pushes the diaphragm up during exhalation. Deep breathing exercises are very healthy and train the body to breathe more properly.
Most people do "shallow breathing", which is exactly the opposite. When they inhale, they suck in the stomach and raise the shoulders.
Although not absolutely necessary, it is better to practice deep breathing when you do the above exercises.
Vital Energy
Vital energy means: More oxygen in the blood, increased metabolism, heat. This will increase your energy levels, make you alert and elevate your mood. The above breathing exercises will give you vital energy and will prepare you for the energy exercises.
Some details
Negative breathings focus on emptying the lungs and blood from oxygen, while positive breathings focus on filling the lungs and blood with oxygen.
By doing negative breaths first, you create a shortage of oxygen, so the body is more eager to absorb the extra oxygen supplied by the positive breaths.
It is better to stand when you do the breathing exercise, so that the abdomen and thorax can expand freely. Do not sit with your torso leaning forward, as this will restrict the movement of your lungs.
